I live and work in the Western United States; my family’s deep connection over many generations to the land, people and industry of this culturally complex region finds expression in the sculpture I create. Cast iron implements, broken vehicles, spent toolboxes; irrigation gates and fence lines are among the icons of an agricultural and industrial century. These depictions speak to the conflict, displacement and lost innocence faced by many, a bankrupt cultural paradigm of a bountiful landscape with limitless resources. My hope through the work is to challenge our ongoing relationship to that earlier ethos by exploring our human connection with natural systems of survival, utility and organization.
